Receptions/Exhibitions
In Stockholm during daytime there will be exhibitions at the Stockholm International Fairs of privately owned carpets and textiles. A splendid exhibition of rare Turkmen carpets, tent bands and trappings from the Eagle göl group I, II and III never shown together before. An exhibition of Swedish owned Oriental carpets and Scandinavian textiles of high quality as well as an exhibition of silk rugs will also be on view.
There will also be a large part of a 17th century tent from the Armémuseum.
In the evenings there will be exhibitions at the Royal Palace and at several museums. The Royal Armoury exhibits Transylvanian rugs, other carpets and a pair of Polonaise rugs from the Skokloster Castle, a Polonaise rug from the Hallwyl Museum, fabulous Oriental arms and armour as well as Queen Kristina’s Safavid velvet coat.
The Museum of Ethnography will exhibit one of the Eagle göl pieces as well as Sami objects from Lappland and some of the items that the Swedish explorers brought back to Sweden from travels all over the world.
At the National Historical Museum we will have the opportunaty to view the unique Marby rug, some Islamic textiles and historical Swedish textiles. There will be other exiting objects on view at the different museums.
Museum visits for the conference delegates with special badges
The Museum of Ethnography (Etnografiska museet) 17th of June 2011 at 18.30
In this exciting museum you will find objects that Swedish scholars and explorers have brought home
from different areas of the world. Sven Hedin is one of our most well known travellers. The museum
will exhibit some of the things he took home from his travels only for us. There will be other interesting
items taken out from the storage for this occasion.
One of the important Turkmen knotted textiles from the "Eagle"-göl group II will be shown in
the evening at the Museum of Ethnography. It is a beautiful large torba and it belongs
to Staatliches Museum für Völkerkunde in Munich. Buses leave at 20.00 for the National Historical Museum.

The National Historical Museum (Historiska museet) 17th of June
the home of the world famous Marby rug as well as many antiquities found in Sweden. We will
see the Marby rug both from the front and from the back. It will be turned for us so that all the
delegates can examine the back. The museum also houses other Islamic textiles which will be on
view only this evening. A visit to the permanent textile room is a must.
At the National Historical Museum the well known "Fustat" fragments that came to the
museums thanks to Carl Johan Lamm will be on view only for us. They are usually stored at the
Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and at the Röhsska Museum (Röhsska Museet) in Gothenburg.
At the National Historical Museum you will be served cakes and wine.
The Royal Armoury (Livrustkammaren) 18th of June at 18.30
You will find the Royal Armoury in the Royal Palace. For almost five hundred years, items once in the
possession of Swedish monarchs have been kept in the Royal Armoury evoking well-known events in
Swedish history. The collection of arms and armour as well as clothing is large. There are Islamic arms
that will be on view only for us as well as Queen Christina’s famous Safavid coat in velvet.
The world famous and spectacular so called Royal Hunting carpet from the 16th century Persia
will be shown only this evening. It belongs to the Royal Collections (Kungliga Husgerådskammaren)
and it is made of silk, gold and silver threads.
All the carpets from Skokloster Castle will be on view this evening as well as the Polonaise rug
from the Hallwyl Museum. The collection from Skokloster contains among others two Polonaise
rugs in brilliant colours, several Transylvanian rugs, a so called Lotto and a Medallion Ushak.
